Deputies will also analyze the tax reform legislation, approved in the Senate last week.
The President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), declared on Tuesday 17th that deputies will vote today on the fiscal adjustment package sent by the Lula government (PT), but did not guarantee that it will be approved.
“We will vote. I do not guarantee approval or rejection. We go to vote, we discuss, we talk, we dialogue, we find texts to vote on”, he told journalists upon his arrival in the Chamber in the afternoon.
According to the deputy, the proposal regulating the tax reform, approved in the Senate last week, will also be voted on.
Amid the soaring dollar and complaints from financial market participants about the control of public finances, the government is struggling to proceed with the approval of adjustment projects. According to Treasury accounts, the proposal could save R$70 billion between 2025 and 2026 and up to R$327 billion by 2030.
Lira said the House is expected to vote this Tuesday on the bill that limits the granting of tax credits in the event of public finance deficits and allows for the contingency of parliamentary amendments. On Wednesday 18th the other two texts will be voted on, a proposed amendment to the Constitution and the other bill. The government faces internal resistance in its bid to move forward with measures that reduce spending on the minimum wage and minimum wage overhaul.
There is also dissatisfaction among parliamentarians with the decision of the Federal Supreme Court which conditioned the release of amendments by the government to the transparency and traceability rules.
“After the PLP vote [texto que será votado nesta terça] We bring the leaders together to address the substantive issues that have been discussed regarding the PL and the PEC, but the forecast is for a vote on these two issues in the session of the House,” Lira said.
