A challenge to the CBF status quo

Ronaldo will be able to run for president, but the difficult task will be to convince the federations of the need to break the management model

Since Ronaldo Fenômeno declared his intention to take over the presidency of the CBF almost a week ago, the movement behind the scenes of the entity has grown.

On Friday the current holder of the chair, Ednaldo Rodrigues, tried to present ideas for the future, strengthening the support of 26 state federations. The leaders declared themselves on the side of the situation.

Earlier this week, as well as confirming that he will run, Ronaldo was keen to present his plans.

As a phenom, his vision and business acumen are unquestionable. And he also counts on the support of the players. Among these, those known as Romário.

But to put his speech into practice (a long one on social media, among other things) with the promises and the disruption he intends to cause by traveling around Brazil, it will be necessary, as a second act, to “destroy” the federations that so much need the initial support.

According to the rules governing the CBF, elections can take place starting from March next year. In other words, one calendar year before the end of Ednaldo’s mandate, in March 2026. But the body is unlikely to bring forward the elections.

It is worth remembering that, to apply, Ronaldo needs the signatures of at least four of the 27 federations and four of the 40 clubs that play in Serie A and B in Brazil. Only then will you be able to register your license plate.

Although the task is arduous, it is possible to form new state alliances. Now, how can we forget that some of the names that support Ednaldo today were already opposing him a short time ago. Precisely at the end of 2023.

The race to break up the CBF in all respects has already begun. That is: in the management model and in the way football is managed “professionally” in the country.

We now live in Brazil with a game of inestimable value and an organization marked by unacceptable interests, with a structure of power and influence that has remained for decades in the service of desires that are not the main ones at stake in the country.

Progress in football will only happen when the treatment of national championships is concluded and Brazilian team it is of the first magnitude.

The possibility of seeing a former player take over the presidency is estimable. But it will be up to Ronaldo to convince the state federations, which effectively determine what happens in the country, that the status quo It’s not healthy.
