In 2002, director Danny Boyle released a zombie film so revolutionary that it changed the genre as a whole, starting the Deathstroke franchise. Years later, in 2007, Boyle decided to pass the baton to a relatively unknown Spanish director, who focused on completely new characters.
Now, a third Deathstroke movie will be released in 2025, marking the start of what is expected to be a new trilogy. So, if you’re a fan of zombie movies, it might be a good idea to remember how this franchise started: here’s where to watch these movies.
Many people believe that the first time we saw zombies with the ability to run was in Zack Snyder’s 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, but before that, Danny Boyle released Deathstroke, completely changing how they are zombies represented.
Where to see the films of the Extermination franchise?
To date, only two films in the Extermination series have been released. The first was released in cinemas in 2002, while the second in 2007. Now, two decades later, Danny Boyle has returned to direct to continue the saga. The first film in a new trilogy, “Extermination: The Evolution,” is expected to hit theaters in June 2025.
To remember the beginning of this story, find out where to watch the first two films of the saga.
Extermination (2002)

In “Extermination” (28 Days Later), activists release laboratory animals, only to discover that they have been infected with a “rabies virus,” which turns them into murderous savages. The virus spreads rapidly among humans, and after Jim (Cillian Murphy) wakes up in an empty hospital, he finds himself in a deserted London.
Finding an old newspaper, the young man learns of a virus that has turned humanity against itself. Frightened, Jim finds Selena (Naomie Harris) and Hannah (Megan Burns), and the group flees together for help.
For now, the first film in the series is not available on any streaming service. Perhaps, with the arrival of “Extermination: The Evolution”, the situation will change and the feature film will reach digital platforms next year.
Extermination 2 (2007)

Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the film “Extermination 2” (28 Weeks Later) is set six months after the virus outbreak reported in the first release of the series. The US military is trying to restore order to London and the city is repopulated, but the infection returns when a carrier of the virus accidentally reintroduces it, generating a new epidemic and chaos.
The story follows a family separated by the spread of the virus in Europe, focusing on siblings Tammy (Imogen Poots) and Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton), who apparently carry the cure in their genes. Doyle (Jeremy Renner), a member of the special forces, is tasked with protecting them.
