It’s been more than 5 years since Astrid and Raphael appeared on our television screens. And since the pilot aired in April 2019, the detective series led by Lola Deweer and Sarah Mortensen continues to attract millions of viewers every year.
For season 5, the last episode of which aired on Friday, December 20, on France 2, an average of 5 million curious people gathered in front of their screens to discover the new investigations of our two heroes. A success story that has even prompted the English to make a spin-off called Patience, which will soon air on Channel 4.
A success that cannot be denied
During an interview, AlloCiné asked Alexandre de Seguins, creator and screenwriter of Astrid and Raphael, what he says is the reason for this success that continues year after year.
“The only reason the show really works is because of the characters. Astrid’s character is particularly endearing and Raphael’s character is particularly identifiable“, he explained.
“There’s something about their friendship that makes the audience feel good and therefore helps build that encounter. The actors who play them have succeeded in creating this attachment. For Astrid’s character, we want to discover her world and we want to learn new things about her. He intrigues and at the same time we feel close to him. As for Rafael’s character, he is not a traditional police officer. He is not infallible, he errs.”
When will the series end?
Obviously, with such success, we can only wonder if Astrid and Raphael will end up one day. We asked Alexandre de Seguins if he was already thinking about the end and if he was not afraid of extending one more season.
“Both– he answered with a laugh. “I have in mind how to end the series. Hopefully it won’t end right away, but above all, I hope it’s a series we can write an ending to. However, we still have a lot to say. But we all agree that we don’t want to extend the season. And I think we’re not there yet.” This should calm the fans down!
