Protesters demand an end to violence against Palestinians

A group of pro-Gaza activists placed a keffiyeh on baby Jesus at a nativity scene in Florence, Italy, this Tuesday (31). The object is the traditional scarf worn on the head by Middle Eastern men.

Shortly before, the activists of “Florence for Palestine” held a protest on the famous Ponte Vecchio, symbol of the Tuscan capital, where they hoisted a Palestinian flag and a banner with the words “For the end of the Israeli occupation, of apartheid and genocide.”

In a note signed on behalf of Leonhard Schaefer, the person in charge explains that the protest aimed to “distract Florentines and tourists from shopping” in the face of “the atrocities of the Israeli army and the dramatic situation in the West Bank”.

The statement also states that “the activists carried out an action in front of the nativity scene in the Cathedral, covering the Baby Jesus with the keffiyeh, the traditional Palestinian scarf”. Throughout the actions, Schaefer said protesters “shouted slogans [como] Free Palestine! Gaza will win! Hands off the children! Stop the genocide! and against [Benjamin] Netanyahu and the United States.”
