One of the biggest cinema releases in 2024, which immediately became a hit with audiences and critics alike, Wicked “could be banned in three years” if “USA continues on the path it is on,” according to the director Adam McKayresponsible for films such as The Big Bet (2015), Don’t Look Up (2021), Deputy (2018) and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004).

In a post made on Twitter, currently called X, the filmmaker spoke about the political narrative of the production, which shows more of the farce of the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), who reveals himself to be a tyrant who rules the people of the region.

“On a pure narrative level, Wicked Part 1 is up there as one of the most radical films from major studios. Hollywood already done. I know that the Part 2 returns a little to the center, but the Part 1 is openly about radicalization in the face of careerism, fascism, propaganda,” he wrote.

“What’s really impressive about Wicked Part 1 is that it’s being released NOW, when America has never been so right-wing and hyped, “And yes, I know the stage production and the book are much older, so some of the timing is a coincidence, but still,” continued.
