Mysterious 500 kg ring fell in Kenya: “Part of a space object”

What would be your reaction to an object weighing 500 kg and 2 meters in diameter falling directly from the sky? You would think it’s the end of the world, right? This was the first thought of the inhabitants of a Kenyan village when they were surprised by a mysterious ring.

The fragment fell in Mukuku, Makueni county, near the capital Nairobi, on the 30th. However, only on Friday the 3rd, the country’s space agency, KSA, identified the object.

“Residents in the area should not be alarmed. It is part of a space object, perhaps a separation stage of a rocket. (…) It is only one in a million. You will rarely see it fall, because they often burn up before descending to the surface terrestrial,” one of the experts told local website Tuko.

The metal ring fell in an isolated area without causing casualties or material damage.

“I heard what I thought was an explosion when he fell here! I asked, ‘Will the world end today?’” one resident said.
