Fernanda Torres and the film inspired by the work of Marcelo Rubens Paiva could be among the names expected at the awards
With the ceremony scheduled for March 2, the 2025 Oscars are already one of the most talked about topics among fans and film critics. While the official list of nominees has not yet been released, the pre-list, revealed in December, provided important clues about which productions could shine at the awards. Among them, the Brazilian film I’m Still Heredirected by Walter Sallesgained prominence.
The film, inspired by the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paivaaddresses the story of Eunice Paiva during the military dictatorship in Brazil and won acclaim at international festivals. Furthermore, the victory of Fernanda Torres at the Golden Globes as Best Actress in a Drama Film raised expectations of a possible Oscar nomination, both for the actress and the film in the Best International Film category.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already started the voting stages, which are divided into phases. After publishing the pre-list, members decided on the final nominees in a process held between January 8th and 13th, and the next stage will be held between February 11th and 19th, when the winners will be decided.
Now, the big question is: when will we finally know who will be in the running? The 2025 Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 17th, directly on the Academy’s social networks and in specialized vehicles. From then on, the race for cinema’s biggest prize enters the final stretch, with the winners being chosen in February.
