Some citizens in California, United States, were outraged after discovering that millionaires were hiring private firefighters to save their mansions from forest fires. According to the newspaper Daily Mailthe Los Angeles elite would pay up to $2,000 (more than R$12,000) per hour to these professionals.

Until the last update, made on Sunday 12th, 24 deaths had been recorded following the fires that broke out around January 7th. To contain the fire, private firefighters hired by the ultra-rich use a bright pink flame retardant.
The situation became even more evident when entrepreneur Keith Wasserman, co-founder of Gel Venture Partners, posted on his X profile a request to send private firefighters to protect his property in the Pacific neighborhood Palisades.
“Does anyone have access to private firefighters to protect our house in Pacific Palisades? We need to act quickly here. All the neighbors houses are on fire. I will pay any amount. Thank you,” he wrote.
In the comments, social network users criticized the request. “Incredible courage. His family has been evacuated and he is trying to hire private firefighters to risk their lives to save a home he has definitely insured,” one wrote.
Another asked: “So you’re suggesting that potentially life-saving (even ‘private’) resources should be diverted to saving your home because you’re rich while tens of thousands of people are trying to evacuate?”
The real estate entrepreneur defined those who criticized him as “trolls” and ended up deleting his profile on the social network.
In Los Angeles, since 2022, there have been strict rules against water waste and, in this context, many millionaires have already been fined for exceeding their water quotas. That year, socialite Kim Kardashian was fined for using 232,000 gallons of water more than her allowed quota. The same happened with other celebrities, such as Sylvester Stallone and comedian Kevin Hart.
