Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is recommended to watch “Squid Game” season 2.
The South Korean phenomenon series has made a massive comeback on Netflix. Still at the top of the platform’s viewership charts, Squid Game confirms its success with a second season that offers a historic record for the streaming service.
Three years after the explosion of the first episodes, Squid Game is still popular around the world. The fans were there for this second season, which had a tough task as the inaugural season.
Although a sequel was not planned, creator, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk had to redouble his imagination to write new characters, new storylines, new twists and new games.
New games challenge “Squid Game” in season 2
“There were definitely difficulties with the games because director Hwang used all his favorite games and ideas in the first season, not knowing there would be a season 2.”explained Kim Ji-Yeonso, executive producer of Squid Game TheWrap.
Ready for any challenge, Hwang Dong-hyuk chose to include multiple games in Season 2 of the Netflix series, offering “5 games in one”! In Episode 5, the contestants begin the second game, which is a children’s game of pentathlon that must be completed in teams of 5 with ankles tied in 5 minutes.
Squid Game viewers loved this quintet consisting of ddakji, biseokchigi, gonggi, spinning top and jegichagi, and some of them are even trying these games by posting their own exploits on social media.
If you find these games too difficult (especially the gong) under these conditions, know that this series was the hardest to shoot in Squid Game Season 2!
Difficult shooting of pentathlon
“It was the only game where participants helped each other”Hwang commented, “I thought that if we increased the ability of people to support and help each other, society would improve.”
If this message comes in this long impressive sequence, the fact remains that the event will turn out to be very deadly and many participants will lose their lives and blood on the playing field carefully created by the team decorations.
There were no less than 360 players and 150 technical crew members on the set, which was filled with gravel to replicate a childhood playground.

But it also had unfortunate consequences for the team, as the movement of many people created dust in the middle of flu season, according to Lee Byun Hoon, who plays Front Man and Player 001.
“It was the most fun, but also the most tiring. Every time the group ran, they were completely covered in dust and couldn’t breathe.”
It took more than two weeks to shoot the pentathlon due to dust and sick people on the set. “Everyone got very sick.”Hwang said. “As soon as I said ‘cut,’ everyone would start coughing, including me.”
You can tell the cast and crew of Squid Game put their heart and soul into making the series, with the results that can sometimes come with it! And it’s not over, because we’ll see them again in a few months for the third season, with other games that promise to be just as intense!
Both seasons of “Squid Game” are available on Netflix.
