Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is recommended to watch “Squid Game” season 2.

After the global success of its first season, Squid Game is back in force on Netflix for a second round of even more intense episodes, with a new twist and new death games.

Fans of the South Korean series phenomenon have clearly found the protagonist Gi-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), aka player 456, who wants to stop playing… by getting back into the game.

There he meets new participants, more or less friendly, including Choi Su-bong, player 230. The latter quickly became one of the new favorite characters of Squid Game fans.

This smart head is amazing

Colorful and bordering on psychopathic, this crazy contestant is saddled with debt after a bad cryptocurrency investment that sunk his career as a rapper.

  • The Squid Game on Netflix: The Marvel Chapter We Didn’t Expect With This Crazy and Controversial Character

Because Player 230, played by Choi Seung-hyun, is best known as Thanos. This nickname refers to the main antagonist of the Marvel film franchise.

The character has dyed her hair purple (like the character’s color) and painted her nails the same colors as the famous Infinity Stones that Thanos tried to collect in the MCU films.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk explained this choice in an interview Netflix : “The reason we named the character Thanos…the name doesn’t really fit the rapper, was to design a character that fans all over the world would love. But I’m so grateful that he’s gotten so much love.”

From controversial actor to fan favorite character

The presence of actor Choi Seung-hyun, who plays Thanos, in Squid Game caused controversy due to a drug-dealing scandal in South Korea that occurred when he was still a rapper in the K-pop group BigBang.

  • “It took a lot of courage for him to play this role”: That’s the Squid Game season 2 announcement, and he’s come a long way.

Hwang Dong Hyuk returned to this scandal from nine years ago in an interview people. He first recalled that Choi Seung-hyun had experienced this event that prevented him from working all this time.

The character of Thanos reflects some of Choi Seung-hyun’s traits and experiences, as the Squid Game creator explains:

“I think it took a lot of courage for him to play a character, especially one that shares a lot of similarities, which is also quite negative for him as a person. As a director, he did a very impressive job and I did. “I’m very happy with what He did with the character.”

Outside of South Korea, the rest of the world didn’t hold Choi Seung-hyun against his scandalous past and loved his interpretation of the Thanos character. He very quickly became one of the favorite characters of the fans, who gave him a lot of montages, montages and tributes on social networks.

Thanos is the best thing that happened to Squid Game 2.

I just finished season 2 of Squid Game and I love Thanos so much. One of my new favorite villains totally stole the show in every scene he was in. Much more interesting than Deok-soo, even if he’s far less threatening.

Both seasons of “Squid Game” are available on Netflix.
