Later, after the enormous repercussion of the interview, he announced on social media that he would be “in great shape, except for the emphysema”.
In a post on his Twitter, he wrote:
Ladies and gentlemen,
Yes, I have emphysema due to many years of smoking. I must say that I really enjoyed smoking and that I love tobacco – the smell of it, lighting cigarettes with fire, smoking them – but there is a price to pay for that and the price for me is emphysema. I have currently been smoke free for two years. I recently had several tests done and the good news is that I’m in great shape, except for the emphysema. I am full of joy and will never retire.
I want you to know that I truly appreciate your concern.
With love,
David
