This sitcom, which has not yet been released in France, is breaking all records in the United States

This is the unexpected success of the beginning of the year. On January 8, ABC began airing Shifting Gears, a series hosted by Tim Allen and Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls), breaking a record-setting six-year-old debut.

record in Shifting Gears

When the first episode of Shifting Gears aired, no fewer than 6.2 million people gathered around their television screens. A very good score for a mid-season run that has been consolidated with repeat figures.

Seven days after it aired, the pilot was seen by nearly 17 million viewers who watched the episode on ABC, Hulu and Disney+. This is a 173% increase over linear broadcasting.

Shifting Gears thus achieved its best run on ABC since Connors in 2018. It also achieved the best launch till date from the channel on streaming platforms.

Good entries, which therefore bode well for the future of the sitcom. Do these figures hold in the coming weeks?

A five star actor

Shifting Gears follows Matt (played by comedian Tim Allen), a widower who owns a vintage car restoration shop, who sees his everyday life turned upside down when his daughter (played by Kat Dennings) moves into his home with her children.

The sitcom is also hosted by Seann William Scott, best known for lending his features to Steve Stifler in the American Pie franchise. Darryl Mitchell (NCIS: New Orleans), Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis round out the cast.

At the moment, no French broadcast channel has been announced for the sitcom. However, it’s highly likely that it will make its way to Disney+, which already offers the vast majority of ABC programming, in the coming months.
