Billy, aka Shazam, tells how he got his powers thanks to the wizard Shazam choosing him as his champion, and how now his step-siblings also boast superpowers.
One might think that Shazam is confessing to psychological therapy, but he’s actually a pediatrician, with quirky dolls like Anabelle’s doll, listening to him.
Later, from a cell, the wizard Shazam warns Billy of the danger the world is in because the Daughters of Atlas, the new villains of ‘Shazam 2’, are after him.
This reference gives rise to the debut of Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), two of the daughters of the titan Atlas who were portrayed. The third daughter is played by Rachel Zegler.
Hespera explains to Shazam that his anger stems from a group of children he and his siblings “stole” the power of the gods. However, Shazam, true to his teenage sense of humor and naivety, warns her that he doesn’t have the same experience as her since he’s not very old, and makes a fun reference from “Fast and Furious” about the importance of family who waits for his brothers to show up to help him, but only looks ridiculous as his brothers are conspicuous by their absence.
The words end and the action continues with the transformation of Shazam and his brothers and the great power that the Atlas sisters have with dragons and more beings and creatures that make the superhero family not know how to deal with them.
Billy realizes that he really doesn’t know how to get out of this mess, but the wizard Shazam reminds him of his courage.
The trailer features several action scenes where both the daughters of Atlas and Shazam and his brothers face off in thrilling battle. Some of the magical creatures involved in the fight are also revealed, including unicorns and a massive dragon, which Shazam rams with a truck at the end of the trailer.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods: superhero cast, new villains and release date
“Shazam 2” re-casts several of the actors who debuted in the 2019 film. As for the adult superheroes, Zachary Levi returns as Shazam/Billy, Adam Brody as Freddy, Michelle Borth as Mary, Ross Butler as Eugene, Meagan Good as Darla and DJ Cotrona as Pedro.
In his teenage version, Asher Angel returns as Billy, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy, Grace Fulton as Mary, Ian Chen as Eugene, Faithe Herman as Darla and Jovan Armand as Pedro.
Djimon Hounsou also returns to play the wizard Shazam.
As for the villains, there are the daughters of Atlas, played by Derek Russo: Helen Mirren, almost 77, makes her debut as Hespera, Lucy Liu plays Kalypso, and Latina actress Rachel Zegler will give life to the third by Freddy. daughter and potential love interest.
The trailer reveals that the film will premiere “this Christmas,” which will be December 25, 2022. However, several outlets have reported that the release date will be days before: December 21, 2022 in the US, while in some other countries is expected to hit theaters on December 15.
