With $422 million worldwide, Sonic 3 just surpassed the global grosses of Sonic ($319 million) and Sonic 2 ($405 million). The entire saga, inspired by Sega’s video game franchise, grossed $1.15 billion at the international box office.
So it’s only natural that Paramount Pictures has announced that the fourth installment of The Little Blue Hedgehog’s Adventures will see the light of day, and we already know the release date! Therefore, Sonic 4 will be released in American theaters on March 19, 2027 (probably March 17 in France), that is, 7 years after the first part.
We still don’t know anything about the casting, but it’s likely that director Jeff Fowler – already working on the previous films and the Knuckles series – and voice actors Ben Schwartz (original voice of Sonic), Colin O’Shaughnessy (Tails), Idris Elba (Knees), Keanu Reeves (Shadow), as well as James Marsden, Tyka Sumpter and Shemar Moore are back.
Was Sonic 4 announced in Sonic 3’s post-credits scene?
In the third part of the adventures of the fast hedgehog, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails find themselves facing a new opponent, Shadow, a mysterious and powerful enemy with new powers. Overwhelmed at every level, Team Sonic will have to form an unlikely alliance to try to stop Shadow and protect our planet. The heroes will meet Robotnik here again, but also his grandfather Gerald. Two characters played by Jim Carrey.
Warning – The sequel contains spoilers for Sonic 3
The announcement of the fourth installment comes as no surprise to box office pundits, nor to viewers who have seen Sonic 3’s post-credits scene in which the blue hedgehog finds himself in New York City and meets Metal Sonic, a robotic clone of the hero. Created by Dr. Robotnik. Thus, the latter should be the main antagonist of the fourth film. But another character appeared: the pink hedgehog Amy Rose, the future love interest From Sonic.
Two new characters to take center stage Sonic 4.
