Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is recommended to watch “Squid Game” season 2.
Almost a month after its release, new episodes of Squid Game are still making the series one of the best views on Netflix. South Korean fiction continues its success with a second season, which offers a historical record for the streaming service.
Three years after the first season, the series, created, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, follows the story of 456th player Gi-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), who is determined to finish the game…get back there.
Season 2 explores new terrain and reveals some of the behind-the-scenes of this deadly game, particularly through the character of Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) who has infiltrated the players and the character of police officer Hwang Joon-ho (Wi). Ha-joon), who is desperately searching for the game island.
The latter, who is also Frontman’s brother, is helped by Captain Park (Oh Dal-soo), a fisherman who saved him after Frontman shot him and fell off a cliff at the end of the first season.
After that, the captain helped Junho find the island by sailing out to sea, to no avail. But Season 2 casts doubt on this captain’s intentions, and fans have theorized about this character having to show his cards in the third and final season of the Squid Game.
Who really is Captain Park?
In the last episode of Season 2 of the Netflix series, we learn that Captain Park foils Joon-oh’s plans, which he managed to unravel by manipulating Woo-seok (Jon Seok-ho), who works for Gi-hoon. He sabotages the drone and even kills one of the mercenaries he hired to help Joon-oh.
There is no doubt that Captain Park is not on Joon-Oi’s side as he claims. We don’t know who he really is yet, but we can assume he works for Front Man.
It’s obvious that Captain Park couldn’t have met Joon-oh by chance, and that Front asked the captain to save his brother and pretend to help him so he could track him down and cover his tracks. Which would explain why Joon-oh couldn’t find the island.
And if he works for Front Man, Captain Park must know the game and what it’s all about. Maybe even more than that, as many Squid Game fans have created theories about this character Reddit and in social networks.
For some of them, Captain Park is part of an organization of soldiers who traffic in the organs of losers in the game and will be the one to transport the organs to the mainland. For others, this character is just a former Squid Game winner like Front Man and Gi-Hun!
Captain Park, former “Squid Game” winner?
Fans have a very keen eye and found two clues that support this theory. For this, we have to go back to the fifth episode of the first season of Squid Game, in which Jun-oh searches for information in the game’s archives, he comes across a list that lists many names, namely winners and editions.

In one of the pages that we see on the screen, we see that the game started with its first edition in 1988. And during the third edition in 1990, the bet was won by the 28th player, a player named Park Pil-Sam! So it could be Captain Park!
Considering his age, he could have won the game about thirty years ago. So why is it still involved? It seems to be a tradition for the winners, after all, the frontman is a former winner, and Gi-hoon is paradoxically involved in making it work by returning there.
Additionally, other fans are curious about another clue: Captain Park’s boat, which we first see in the first episode of Squid Game Season 2. It has a bigger number on it: the number 122. And some people speculate that it might be his playing number.

According to documents found by Jun-oh, player 122 won the 19th edition of the Squid Game in 2006. But the latter’s name is Son Jong-hee, which does not match Captain Park’s name. However, he had already proven himself to be a liar, so he could lie about his true identity.
These two clues support the theory that Captain Park could be a former winner of the Squid Game, it remains to be seen if this holds true in season three and which one was really important.

Will there be a tragic third season?
If it turns out that Captain Park is indeed a former Squid Game winner, it doesn’t bode well for the end of the series, which will wrap up with its third season this year.
This means that it is impossible for Gi-hoon to end the game, and that no winner can escape the organization, and that the people who won will always be connected, whether they like it or not, to the game and that they will contribute in one way or another.
The end of season 2, which is already tragic for Gi-hoon, puts him in a delicate position, and it is difficult to see how our hero will be able to complete the mission he has set himself, or even survive in this new edition.
Unless Joon-ho discovers the truth about Captain Park and manages to get information about the game and organization from him, he can infiltrate it again, help Gi-hoon and the players, and expose the Squid Game to the police and the world. .
Both seasons of “Squid Game” are available on Netflix.
