The director of Nosferatu is taking on a new mythical movie monster

After witches (The Witch), mermaids (The Lighthouse), vikings (The Northman) and vampires (Nosferatu), director Robert Eggers is interested in a new creature for his next film.

Titled Werwulf, this project will take place in 13th century Britain and will tell, as its title suggests, the story of a wolf.

The Hollywood Reporter It is revealed that the feature film was originally intended to be in black and white, but this artistic choice is no longer relevant. All dialogue will also be faithful to the spoken language of the time. Robert Eggers wrote the screenplay for this feature film with John, co-writer of The Northman.

Hollywood is still very much inspired by the werewolf myth, while Universal Studios and Blumhouse recently released Wolf Man by Leigh Whannel, a remake of the 1941 classic.

With Werwulf, Robert Eggers is hoping for similar success to Nosferatu. For a budget of 50 million dollars, the film earned 156 million.

Werwulf is expected in theaters by Christmas 2026.
