The regulation body in Italy is looking for information from Deepseek on data protection

The Italian Data Protection Authority has declared Tuesday that is looking for answers from the Chinese Deepseek artificial intelligence model on the use of personal data.

The Italian regulatory agency, also known as a guarantee, said it wants to know which personal data are collected from which sources, for what purposes, what legal foundations and if they are kept in China.

Deepseek and its affiliated companies have 20 days to respond, according to a guarantee declaration, in one of the first regulatory measures against the Chinese startup.

In the United States, a press secretary of the White House said that the authorities are analyzing the implications of the national security application.

Deepseek, who presents himself as a low cost alternative to US competitors, caused a technological action on Monday, when his free artificial intelligence assistant passed Openai’s chatgpt in the Apple App Store in the United States.

Italy’s guarantee is one of the most active inspection agencies in Europe in the use of the AI. In 2023, he briefly prohibited the use of chatgpt, supported by Microsoft in the country on charges of violations of the privacy rules of the European Union.
