The Ministry of Culture (MINC) plans to launch a public streaming this year to expand the catalog of national productions available for the population. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Center for Excellence in the social technologies of the Federal University of Alagoas.
The idea is to exploit the works of which the Federal Government already has the right, but also includes current cinematographic productions. The announcement had already been done last year and was strengthened during the Tirante Cinema Showto Minas Gerais, who will last until next Saturday (1).
“We have the Brazilian CinemaTheque collection, where it is involved in IPHA and in the Palmares Foundation. It has a collection of funeral. All these make up streaming. But we want contemporary production to be represented, “said Daniela Santana Fernandes, of the audiovisual card and spread of the MINC.
The idea of creating public streaming – whose name cannot yet be revealed – also meets the federal law 13.006/2024, which provides for the display of national films as a component of complementary curriculum in schools.
“It is our commitment. After all, how should we regulate legislation without a tool for schools to be able to do these exhibitions?
Part of the collection will come from a notice released last year to select short films and movies. According to the Federal Government, around 1,600 recordings were received and the result will soon be released.
Adjusting digital platforms at stake
The federal government also wants to accelerate the regulation of digital platforms on demand. The goal is to ensure that platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and HBO Max provide a minimum percentage of national productions in the catalog.
In addition, there is a debate to establish guidelines for the economic commercial gain for the exploration of an audiovisual product between the manufacturer and the platform. For experts, the nominations “are still here” in Oscar 2025 favor the discussion.

“These are rights that have already been guaranteed throughout the history of our public policies. If we extend it to the platforms, we will defend our independent production. We will defend sovereignty, “said Joelma Gonzaga, national secretary of audiovisual.
“None of the countries considered great powers of the audiovisual industry has reached this place without defending its national production. France, South Korea, the United States themselves, in short, all have a mechanism for the defense of protection of its intellectual property, “he concluded.
The post government wants to launch the free public streaming service this year appeared for the first time in digital look.
