Spiderman returns to the drawings in a prequel series of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker that will narrate the origins of the superhero in the UCM.
We are already immersed in phase 4 of Marvel, with which the company has extended its stories to the serial format for Disney + and, with it, comes the opportunity to reopen another Marvel audiovisual bet that had been in the background for a long time: the animated series of comic book superheroes. After the success of ‘What If…’, which has already announced its second season, It was a matter of time before Marvel wanted to recover two of its animated milestones in the 90s: the X-Men series and the Spider-Man series.. Both projects were announced together in November 2021 in two animated series that will be titled, respectively, ‘X-Men ’97’ and ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ (Spider-Man: First year’).

Long before the release of the first Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire, ‘Spider-Man: The animated series’ was for a whole generation the gateway to the superhero by Peter Parker. After her there were others, until ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ in 2012, but the 1994 series appears again as the beacon to which this new animated version of the character refers.
That is everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’the new animated series.
‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’: Release date
As usual in Marvel series, at the moment no details are known about the approximate date on which ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ will arrive at Disney +. At the moment, it seems that is scheduled for 2024, after ‘X-Men ’97’. And although there is enough left, there is already confirmed a second season titled ‘Spider-Man: Sophomore Year’.

‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’: Synopsis
The most important detail of the new Spider-Man animated series is that its format does not prevent it from being part of the MCU canon, but we do not know if it will be part of the main Universe of the other Marvel movies and series.
According to him official announcement“The animated series follows Peter Parker on his journey to become Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a journey unlike anything we’ve ever seen before and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic roots.”
This could mean that the series will act as prequel to both ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and that will tell the origin story of the character that, more or less, had been hidden from us until now within the UCM.
The cast of ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’: what characters will we see?
Tom Holland will not be the voice of Peter Parker in the animated series, and between this and the characters that have been revealed at Comic Con, the first rumors that the series will not be part of the MCU canon (or, at least, the 616 universe of the MCU, which is the main one we know and in which all our favorite characters live at the moment) have begun to emerge.
It would be a bit strange if Spider-Man had faced so many villains as have been announced before his appearance in ‘Civil War’. And it is that the Marvel panel revealed that Spider-Man will face nothing more and nothing less than Norman Osborn (Green Goblin), Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, Scorpion… A gallery with several of the most iconic villains in the comic history of superheroes that Tom Holland’s character didn’t seem to remember in ‘No Way Home’.
It has also been announced that characters like Doctor Strange and Daredevil (voiced by Charlie Cox) will make an appearance in the series as friends and allies of Spider-Man, from whom they have revealed up to 5 different outfits.
‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’: Showrunner and director
The only name announced alongside the project was that of its lead writer and executive director, Jeff Trammell, which thus joins the UCM after having created ‘Craig’s World’. Of the director, on the other hand, nothing is known at the moment.
‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’: Trailer
We’re still a long way from seeing the trailer for the series, but as soon as there’s something new you’ll find it in this updated article.
