Netflix and Sony paralyze ‘Fast and Loose’ and ‘Bad Boys 4’, Will Smith’s new projects

The actor begins to suffer the consequences of his incident at the Oscars

More than a week has passed since Will Smith’s attack on Chris Rock at the Oscars, and the matter continues to drag on. After publicly apologizing on social networks and resigning as a member of the Academy, anticipating a possible sanction that has yet to be defined, the winner of the Oscar for Best Actor begins to have problems moving forward with his next projects.

A week before the Oscars, the director David Leitch dropped the new project Smith had with Netflix,’Fast and Loose‘, to join ‘fallguy‘, produced by Universal and starring Ryan Gosling. So far everything normal, Netflix and Universal competed to get Leitch for his new projects and in the end it was Universal who ended up convincing the director. Netflix, initially, began looking for a new filmmaker to put himself at the controls of his film. But then, the Oscars slap changed plans.

According to sources of The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has put ‘Fast and Loose’ in the freezer for the time beingand it could even be considered moving forward in the future with a new protagonist.

‘Fast and Loose’ was going to tell the story of a criminal kingpin who loses his memory after an attack. Piecing together clues, he discovers that he has carried a dual identity as a millionaire criminal and a bankrupt CIA agent.

Sony seems to have done the same with ‘Bad Boys 4‘, which had been in pre-production for some time and even had a 40-page draft of the script in Will Smith’s possession. Now the project will stay in the background, at least for a while.

Smith has pending premiere ‘Emancipation’, a drama about slavery produced by Apple Tv + that is already filmed and that should see the light throughout this year, but that does not yet have a broadcast date and could see its coming-out delayed. Neither Apple Tv + nor Netflix have wanted to make any kind of comment about it.
