Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac Live Movie First Images

The live-action Saint Seiya movie was announced during a video shoot at San Diego Comic-Con. We can get our first glimpse of what this adaptation of Kurumada’s cult manga has to offer. What should calm the fans?

In anticipation of its first trailer, the Saint Seiya live-action movie introduced the Comic Con community to a video shoot.

The film crew present during the event was very enthusiastic and wanted to appease the fans, as was Toei Animation producer Yoshi Ikezawa. The latter has big ambitions for the film franchise, hoping to launch a saga of 6 feature films.

Now available online, the video goes behind the scenes of the shoot, including the preparation of the fight scenes. Note that the tricks are controlled by the size in the middle, Andy Cheng. This outstanding technician especially choreographed Shang-Chi’s battles on the Marvel side.

He is also a former collaborator of Jackie Chan (Mister Cool, Rush Hour, Shanghai Kid). That’s why Cheng appears in this video, supporting the actors in staging the film’s dangerous sequences.

Seiya, the hero of the film, is played by American-Japanese actor McKenyu Arata. Revealed in Pacific Rim Uprising, he will also be one of the featured characters in the One Piece live-action series on Netflix, another highly anticipated adaptation of the cult manga. He slips into a Roronoa Zoro costume.

Note that McEnew, 25, is the son of late comedian Sonny Chiba, who died last August. Sean Bean and Famke Jansen also appear in these pictures. The first is to slip into the costume of Alman Kido, Seiya’s mentor.

As for Famke Janssen, it looks like she will be portraying one of the 24 Silver Knights, Marine de l’Age, in the service of the goddess Athena. The latter is played by Madison Isman, an actress who appeared in Dwayne Johnson’s new Jumanji movies.

Mark Dacascos, the famous martial artist (Covenant of the Wolves, Crying Freeman, John Wick Parabellum), will also be here in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Finally, Diego Tinoco gets to slip into the armor of the Ikki Knight of the Phoenix, one of the most popular characters among fans.

McEnew and Madison Iseman present the first poster for the film, which is expected to be released in 2023.

The film is directed by Polish Tomasz Baginski, producer of the Netflix series The Witcher. As for the script, it is signed by Will Geiger, Blazey Dzikowski and Evgeny Son. The latter notably wrote the script for the 2018 series Saint Seiya (streaming on Netflix), which has sparked a lot of ink.

Josh Campbell and Matt Stuken (10 Cloverfield Lane) also contributed writing. Will the new adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s manga be up to the task? The debate is open.

In any case, this production might reassure fans about the importance and seriousness of the team, which seems to be struggling to prepare spectacular action scenes for us.

In addition, the Toei studio, which owes us the famous animated series, co-produced the feature film with Sony Pictures of America, staying true to the process.

However, the specter of the Dragon Ball Evolution disaster hangs over this feature film, which doesn’t help fans of the original work hoping for a good adaptation of Kurumada’s legendary manga. Knights of the Zodiac will go live in 2023.
