‘A complete unknown’ and ‘wild robot’ were the highlights of the 61st edition of the event
THE 61st edition of Audio Society Awards (Cas Awards) It happened last Saturday (22) at Beverly Hilton, Los Angeles, awarding the best sound mixing works in cinema and television.
The great winners of the night were “A Complete Unknown” (“a complete unknown”)which took the prize of Best Sound Mixing in Live Action Movieand “Wild Robot” (“Wild Robot”)which won in the category of Best Animation Movie. Both productions also compete for Best Sound Oscar 2025, alongside “Dune: Part Two”, “Wicked” and “Emilia Pérez”.
Among the highlights of television, the series “Shōgun”, “The Bear” and “MASTERS OF THE AIR” were awarded in their respective categories.
Night tributes
During the ceremony, the sound mixer Tod A. Maitlandwho worked in “A Complete Unknown”received the Cas Career Achievement Awarddelivered by the director Oliver Stone. The tribute featured testimonials from big names in the industry, including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and the director of A Complete Unknown, James Mangold.
“The true attraction of this sector has always been the people, the casual relations that become ties for life,” Maitland said in his speech.
The director Denis Villeneuveresponsible for “Dune: Part Two”was also honored with the Cas filmmaker award. The award was presented by the mixer Ron Bartlettby the composer Hans Zimmer and by the producer Tanya Lapointe.
“Sound is in the heart of my cinematic creativity,” said Villeneuve upon receiving the prize.
Part of the profits collected at night were intended for fire aid efforts in Los Angeles, with additional donations collected throughout the event.
