The world chess title was in 1969, when Tigran Petrosyan defeated. He participated in the so-called “Game of the Century”, which decided the world champion in 1972. The opponent and the winner were the American Robert Fischer-Islander, who died in 2008 at the age of 64.

The International Chess Federation (Fide) complained of the death of the chess player, which was defined as “one of the most talented players of his generation”.

Spassky’s debut was at the candidate tournament in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, in 1956, at the age of 19. Before winning the world title, Petrosyan even challenged 1966, but was defeated by the champion.

Spassky has played seven times for the Soviet team of the chess Olympics between 1962 and 1978. In 1976, he immigrated to France, where he won the citizenship of the country and even represented it in 1984 and 1988.

At 75, in 2012, Spassky returned to Russia. He was invited to accompany the 2014 chess world cup, between Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand. The great master lived in Russia to death and dedicated himself to the creation of schools and clubs to promote chess.
