Destin Cretton, who directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” will direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” the next film in the celebrated reunion of Marvel’s heroes.
“Avengers: Endgame,” released in 2019, marked the last major reunion of heroes so far, and Marvel delayed movies with its main characters and focused more on introducing new heroes. But during San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige announced two new Avengers movies, which will be released in a row in the same year.
They are: “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, or “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, in free translation; and “Avengers: Secret Wars” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
Now, the first of the next “Avengers” has earned its director, none other than Destin Daniel Cretton, who has signed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” according to the The Hollywood reporter.
Cretton already knows Marvel Studios well enough, having signed a contract with Marvel following the success of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which grossed approximately $ 432 million globally. In addition, the director works alongside Andrew Guest in the development of the live-action series “Wonder Man,” centered on the character Magnum, for Disney +. Finally, Destin Cretton is working on a sequel to “Shang-Chi”.
It has not yet been announced who will sign the script for the new Avengers movie, nor which heroes will make up this group, which should appear fairly revamped after most of the original heroes die or retire after “Endgame”.
The only thing we know from the title is that any group of heroes that form will likely face Kang, a character introduced in “Loki” and played by Jonathan Majors. A version of Kang will appear in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, which will arrive on February 17, 2023, kicking off Phase 5 of the MCU.
With the announcement of Destin Cretton as the director of the next Avengers, he takes on one of the most prestigious jobs in Hollywood. The other Avengers were directed by Joss Whedon, who directed “Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, and by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”.
In addition to the reveal of the director of the next Avengers, Marvel has already revealed that Bassam Tariq will direct “Blade”, which will arrive on November 3, 2023; Julius Onah will direct “Captain America: New World Order,” which stars Anthony Mackie as Captain America, which opens on May 3, 2024; and Jake Schreier will direct “Thunderbolts”, which will close Phase 5 on July 26, 2024. It has not yet been revealed who will take on “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will be released on May 2, 2025.
The next post “Avengers” will be directed by “Shang-Chi” The director first appeared on Digital Look.
