Netflix has released a new behind-the-scenes video of the guarded adaptation of “Sandman”. The preview features testimonials from the cast and crew and highlights scenes that refer to the comics created by Neil Gaiman, but also go far beyond the story. The main reveal is made by showrunner Allan Heinberg (creator of “The Catch”), who describes the first six episodes as if they were different films, with completely different cast and locations.
The first season will adapt the first two volumes of the comics, titled “Preludes and Nocturnes” and “The Doll’s House”, but bringing the story to the present day rather than the 1980s. It all begins when the eternal known as the dream passes for about a century trapped by the ritual of a magician, until he finally frees himself and begins a journey to return to command the Dream. To do this, he needs to recover three stolen tools – a bag full of sand, a ruby and a helmet – on a mission that will take him to hell.
The cast includes Tom Sturridge (“Far From This Foolish World”) as the title character, Vivienne Acheampong (“The One”) as his assistant Lucienne, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (“The Good Place”) as Death, Manson Alexander Park (“Acting for a Cause”) as Desire, Donna Preston (“Double Explosive”) as Despair, Jenna Coleman (“Doctor Who”) as Johanna Constantine, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne from “The Game of Thrones “) as Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook (” Logan “) as the evil Corinthian and many more.
The premiere is scheduled for August 5th.
