Image of the day: Natalia Oreiro at the premiere of the series “Saint Evita” in Buenos Aires

______________________________

The star of the Argentine film industry Natalia Oreiro presented her new project – the series “Saint Evita” (Santa Evita), the trailer of which was published by the Hulu streaming service a week ago. The premiere took place at the Teatro Colon (or Columbus Theatre), an opera house in Buenos Aires founded in 1908. The day was not chosen by chance – July 26 marked the 70th anniversary of the death of Eva Peron, who was played by Oreiro.

The 45-year-old actress came to the opera house in the form of a diva – she was wearing a gold floor-length dress by the Argentinean brand Maria Gorof, embroidered with crystals, with a train, with a cape of feathers, which was attached to the cuffs of the dress. The image was harmoniously complemented by golden pointed shoes, Debbie Mac Donald Joyera stud earrings, fatal makeup with bright pink lipstick and hair neatly pulled into a bun. Recall that for the filming she had to dye her hair ash blonde, but now Natalia has returned to her hair color.

“Saint Evita” is a series about the fate of the body of the wife of Argentine President Juan Peron, Eva Peron, who died at the age of 33. Eva Peron, who was born into poverty and became the first lady of the country, died of cervical cancer in 1952. The body of the woman, whom the citizens of Argentina considered a saint and affectionately called “Evita”, was embalmed, and the funeral was postponed until the moment when the monument was made. However, the monument was never installed, and three years after her death, President Juan Peron was overthrown. The new government sought to erase the legacy of the former head of state, and therefore for 19 years hid the embalmed body of his wife. During this time, the remains of Eva were overgrown with myths – many believed that the troubles of Argentina would end only when the woman’s body was finally buried. As a result, Eva’s body did not find peace until the 1970s, when the former president returned from exile. Eva was buried at the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.

The drama series was directed by Colombian cinematographer Rodrigo Garcia, known for the films Women’s Mysteries, Nine Lives and The Mysterious Albert Nobbs, and actress Salma Hayek became the producer of the project. In addition to Oreiro, the cast of the film included Dario Grandinetti (Juan Peron), as well as Ernesto Alterio, Diego Velasquez and Francesc Orella. By the way, the plot was based on the novel of the same name by the Argentine writer and journalist Thomas Eloy Martinez.

The series is available to watch on Hulu.
