In the plot, Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is a rising writer hired to complete the book series of Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a renowned author unable to write after a mysterious accident. However, by moving to the Crawford family home, Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript of the writer, full of disturbing revelations. At the same time, she approaches Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett), and begins to question whether the story written by Verity is only fiction or a dangerous confession.
