With the adequacy of the basic hygienic services in all Brazilian houses, in 36 months, the rate of hospitalizations for these diseases will decrease drastically. The reduction would also save about 49.9 million dollars to the public coffers, since the cost for hospitalization is $ 506.32.

According to the survey, the Dengue was the Drsai which caused hospitalizations in 2024. There were 164.5 thousand cases out of a total of 168.7 thousand caused by insects. Diseases caused by the lack of hygienic-sanitary services can also be transmitted by the Feco-Orale transmission or by contact with improper water.

Maranhão seems to guide the highest incidence of hospitalizations by Drisai. The State recorded about 46 cases for ten thousand inhabitants in 2024

The hospitalization rate is higher among the elderly and children, which total together 43.5% of the total cases. People aged between 0 and 4 years represent 54 cases for 10,000 inhabitants and the elderly, 23.6.

The study also revealed that the lack of toilet -sunaitaries aggravates racial and gender inequalities. In 2024, about 65% of hospitalizations occurred between blacks and brown. In the case of women, this percentage was 53% – 20.7 thousand more hospitalizations than men.
