Studio MGM is developing a new spin-off of the “Rocky” franchise, titled “Dragon”. The screenplay was written by Robert Lawton (“Crave”) and will focus on the relationship between Russian boxer Ivan Drago, a character played by Dolph Lundgren in “Rocky IV” (1985), and his son Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), who faced Michael B. Jordan in “Creed 2” (2018).
Rumors about the spin-off have been circulating since last year, when Lundgren mentioned a project in development on his character, but at the time the film was seen as a remote possibility.
Since then, MGM has been impressed with Lawton’s script for the upcoming “Becoming Rocky,” the behind-the-scenes story of the first “Rocky” (1976). And while this production doesn’t have a shooting date yet, Lawton convinced the studio and got the green light to develop Drago’s story.
Meanwhile, MGM prepares to claim that universe in “Creed III,” which will once again see Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s (Sylvester Stallone) first opponent and friend, Apollo Creed ( Carl Weathers). In addition to acting, Jordan will make his directorial debut in the new sequel, which was due to premiere this Thursday (7/28) for March 3, 2023 in the United States. For now, there are still no predictions for the launch in Brazil.
