Syria in act ministers in a new transition government

After almost four months from the fall of the dictator Bashar al-Assad, the interim president Ahmad al-Sharaa greets the international community by calling 23 ministers for a more diversified cabinet. Almost four months from the fall of the dictator Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian transitional government office, led by the president to Interim Ahmad al-Sharaa, swore this Saturday (29/3).

In a nod of Al-Sharaa to the international community, the group of 23 ministers is more diversified from an ethnic and religious point of view, including Sunni Muslims, Christians, Alauiti and Drusos. A woman will also be part of the team: Hind Kabawat, a Christian lawyer and opposition from the Assad regime, will be the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor.

The main places are occupied by allies close to Al-Sharaa: Assad al-Shaibani (outside) and Murhaf Abu Qasra (defense) have held their positions; Anas Khattab, head of intelligence, has been appointed interior minister; And Mohammed al-Bashir, former head of government of the province of Rebelde Idlib, is Minister of Energy.

The government will not have a prime minister. Al-Sharaa must guide the executive branch.

They should govern for the next five years, transition time foreseen by the provisional constitution issued in March by Al-Sharaa.

The Syrian leader, who directed the offensive against Assad in December and was appointed interim president of the country in January, claims that the country will need four or five years to create the necessary infrastructures to keep elections.

Effort to increase international support

The formation of a transition government is seen as an essential milestone in the reconstruction of Syria after 14 years of civil war.

The Islamist authorities were under international pressure to form a more inclusive and representative government of the country’s ethnic and religious diversity.

Yarub Badr, an Alauita – the same religious group as the Assad dictator – assumes the Ministry of Transport. Amgad Badr, who comes from the Drusa minority, will guide agriculture. Already the Kurdish terko Mohammed takes on the education folder.

Raed Al -Saleh, who led the white -blind helmets that worked in areas controlled by the rebels, is an emergency minister.

Finance will be responsible for Mohammed Yosr Bernieh.

However, there are no representatives of the Kurdish Sirian Democratic Forces (SDF) Ribelle Group, which dominates the North -est of Syria and is supported by the United States. The commander of Al-Sharaa and SDF, Mazloum Abdi, signed an agreement for the fire at the beginning of the month which provides for the integration of fighters in the Syrian army.

With nominations, Al-Sharaa wants to convince the western countries that Syria goes to democratization and stability. A massacre against hundreds of Alauiti in early March, but raised doubts about the ability of the new government to create these plans.

Al-Sharaa also wants to suspend the economic sanctions imposed on the country during the Assad era. According to the United Nations, 90% of Syrians live below the poverty threshold and millions face the lack of food because of the war.
