Lando Norris was the fastest of the third free practice for the Japan Grand Prix, held at dawn on Saturday (5) in Suzuka. The McLaren pilot dug 1: 27,965 before the session was closed by another red flag caused by the fire – the second of the session.

Oscar Pasters ended in second place, only 0s026 behind Norris, followed by George Russell, who was 0s112 of the best time. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have completed the top 5, with the Dutchman who manages most of the training with hard tires and appears outside the first ten up to the last few minutes.

The session started agitated

At the beginning of training, Isack Hadjar reported problems in the piloting cabin and returned to the pits. Verstappen opened the table with 1: 30.3, followed by Antonelli, who scored 1: 30.8.

With 53 minutes until the end, the first red training flag was activated after the sparks caused a fire on the dry grass. It was the second fire on Saturday and the fifth weekend. The track was released ten minutes later.

Fierce dispute for leadership

On the way back on the track, Norris took the command at 1: 29.457, but was soon exceeded by Leclerc, with 1: 28.107. Liam Lawson appeared in third place, but fell on the table throughout the session.

Hamilton was even second, only 0s165 behind Leclerc. With 37 remaining minutes, Pisters took the tip with 1: 28.768, followed by Norris, Leclerc and Hamilton. Leclerc was still strong, especially in the first sector.

Carlos Sainz starred in a fear while fleeing the grass, but avoided the accident.

Last intense minutes and new red flag

The final stretch of TL3 was intense. With the remaining 25 minutes, Russell took the command at 1: 28.385, but was exceeded by Postri (1: 27,991) and then by Norris (1: 27.965).

Gabriel Bortoleto escaped the track, was afraid, reported a break in the car and ended at the 17th.

The session ended with a new red flag six minutes from the end with another focus of fire on the track.
