Director Vicente Amorim, of “A Division” and “A Princesa da Yakuza”, has been hired to direct the “Senna” series, in development by Netflix. The eight-episode production will tell the story of pilot Ayrton Senna (1960-1994).
“I have had many idols in this sport, but only one hero: Senna. I watched his races, cheered for him, was inspired by him and cried the day he died,” Amorim said in one declaration issued by the production.
The project will be Amorim’s second consecutive series on Netflix. He has recently finished the recording of “Santo”, a Spanish series still unreleased in streaming.
So far, no actor has been hired for the lead role, although Chay Suede has already been cited to play the three-time Brazilian Formula 1 driver.
A co-production between Netflix and Brazilian producer Gullane Entertain, “Senna” will explore “the intimacy of the man who became a national hero and conquered the world,” according to an official statement from the streaming company.
Still without a release date, “Senna” is expected to be one of Netflix’s largest investments in Latin America.
