Attention! The following contains spoilers for the Older brother live streaming starting Monday 1st August. Read at your own risk!
Older brother Season 24 is the most exciting season in a long time, and a lot of that is due to the ever-changing alliances and unexpected moves in the game. Gossipify examines the events of the game with a Paramount + subscription and after another surprise at the veto meeting, it seems more chaos is on the way.
Daniel Durston just did something completely unexpected, but it remains to be seen whether it will be an incredible gameplay move or one of the biggest blunders in recent memory. Here’s what’s going on around the house and how what seemed like a foolproof eviction week for Nicole Layog could slowly change.
Daniel used the veto after Monte told him not to.
After Kyle Capener and Daniel got the veto the current member of the Head of Household and Remains Monte Taylor alliance he thought his plan to rob Nicole was going on. The group then got together again and decided it would be best for their safety to send home one of the current candidates (Alyssa Snider or Indy Santos) because the vote could better mask their number in their alliance. Eventually, Daniel and Nicole had a chance, or so the fans thought. There was no way Daniel could use his veto power, was there?
To make sure his plan was successful, Monte woke Daniel early to warn him not to veto or Nicole would be named. Daniel took the news, absorbed it and even told it to Kyle. In the end, he thought there was a reason why Monte didn’t want him to veto. As such, he made sense to use it and that he could turn the tables in his favor by forcing Monte to make another nomination.
Daniel’s move resulted in Monte appointing Taylor and Nicole
Daniel believed that by using the veto he was taking a big step, even though he didn’t know exactly what. His current theory of him is that he believes Monte realized that Nicole would stay in the house for a vote against Taylor and that Monte would lose a key ally in the process.
The reality is that Taylor isn’t as hated at home as Nicole and Daniel think, despite the fact that the game has begun for her. Daniel could very well have sealed the fate of his greatest ally in the game, assuming some important things didn’t happen. This is Older brother after all, and because we’ve seen this season break with tradition, we’re definitely conditioned to expect the unexpected.
Remainers can have dissidents in their ranks
Just when it looked like the Leftovers had lined up their ducks with sunglasses, a hint of dissent surfaced among their ranks during the live stream. Brittany Hoopes has told her Michael Bruner her Festie Bestie that she fears the upcoming vote will expose them too much. In particular, she feared that if Nicole was expelled and Daniel was caught again, those would be the only obvious votes against Nicole she would see. She hinted that it would be better for their personal games if Taylor went instead, and while Michael tried to dissuade her, she didn’t seem convinced. The story of Daniel’s victories so far that he wasn’t going to win HOH next week and he was going to target them.
Nicole needs 6 votes to stay, and in theory she has at least 3 with Indy, Alyssa and Daniel for sure. Adding Michael and Brittany to the mix, assuming they can be influenced, brings them to five. After that, they would need Jasmine Davis or Terrance Higgins for that sixth ballot and they would be able to save Nicole.
Hell, there’s also a reality where if Michael doesn’t carry out the plan, they can still only do it with Brittany, Jasmine and Terrance. Let’s also not forget that there may be guests who want to vote and keep the mysterious numbers, even if it seems unlikely with such small numbers.
Ultimately, logic dictates that Brittany stay with The Leftovers, but we’ve seen Older brother Guests make puzzle moves forward. We’ll just have to sit down and see what she does, and prepare for more chaos if Nicole ends up surviving Thursday’s eviction.
Older brother aired on CBS (opens in a new tab) Sundays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET and Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET. It seems more and more like watching live streams is a must this week, so be sure to look out for Paramount + e review our guide for advice.
