Cracker and District: the election for the PT president is marked with clashes

The elections for the national president of the party take place on 6 July

The workers’ party (PT) already has three names with questions recorded to apply for the national president of the party: Valter Pomar, Romênio Pereira and the deputy federal Rui Falcão. TO EarthThe party confirmed that the names of Edinho Silva and Washington Quaquá are also candidates, however, the two have not yet recorded the candidacy, therefore they are not officially in the running for the elections.

The last to formalize the candidacy was Deputy Falcão, Friday 25, after officially published his campaign in mid -April, during an event in the center of San Paolo, where he obtained the support of the leaders of the Movement of Workers Without Terra (MST).

Despite the five names, this number could still increase, since the recording period has been extended to May 19, with the 1st round that took place on July 6 and the second, on July 20.

The direct electoral process of this year (PED) is marked by a crack by the current building a new Brazil (CNB), a majority in the PT, as a wing of this group, the same as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the former minister Jose Dirceu-Does does not accept the candidacy of the former mayor of Araraquara (SP) and, appointed by the mandate of Chair. Therefore, there is no consent on who will represent the CNB.

The current is in a dispute for the control of some internal secretarians of the party, such as finance and communication, and even involves accusations of abuse of economic power, a practice condemned by the acronym. After officially announced his candidacy, Falcão said that “it is not against Edinho or against Lula” and an example of this would be committed to re -elected the President of the Republic in 2026 in 2026. “But we want a reconnection with our social base. The PT cannot be a party of parliamentarians, tendencies and leaders of the manager,” said the delegate.

The entire debate revolves around the party relations with the government, since Edinho would have made open signs to the government coalition, including parties in relation to the center-right. In the meantime, the other opponents indicate the need for PT to have a protagonism and is more independent.

While a new president is not elected, the party command is intermediate with Senator Humberto Costa (PE), aligned with the dissent of the CNB which is against Edinho’s dispute. He took control after Gleisi Hoffmann, who was head of the PT between July 2017 and March 2025, to go to the Ministry of International Relations.

Who are the official candidates:

• Valter Orchard: Left leader, in line with the left wing of the party and director of the Perseu Abraham Foundation. He is a PT militant;
• Rui Falcão: Former president of the PT, between 2011 and 2017 and the federal deputy. The candidate has the support of MST and the current socialist democracy;
• Romênio Pereira: Current secretary to the international relations of the PT, the current PT movement and the party leader. It has support from local leaders, as in the northern region.

Candidates who have not yet had an official application:

• Edinho Silva: Former Prime Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication of the Government Dilma Rousseff and former mayor of Araraquara (SP). It is from the CNB current, which has the support of Lula;
• Washington Quaquá: Former Federal Federal and Mayor of Maricá (RJ). He was vice -president of the PT and enters the dispute in the current CNB.

• Who can apply?

All PT affiliates can request Pf, provided that their affiliations are recorded in the system until February 28, 2025. For the elections, the presidents who represent the National, in addition to the state and municipal state will be chosen.

• What happens during the campaign?

Internal political discussions take place, with a debate on the Municipalities, States and also at national level, with the presence of candidates and representatives of the competitions in competition.

• Who can vote?

All affiliates who also have the affiliations recorded until the last day of February.

• What day the vote will take place

The first round is scheduled for July 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, according to the time of each region of the country. The vote is secret. Already the second round occurs on July 20.

• What is the duration of the mandates?

The mandate of the effective and alternative members of the party directions, tax advice and ethical committees will be 4 years old. The indications should have gender equality, IE should be made up of 50% of women and 50%.
