On the eve of Conclave, the cardinals claim that “there is no polarization”

Religious states that the climate before the elections is good

Pending the conclave to choose the successor of Pope Francis, killed on April 21, several cardinals say that the climate is good between them and there are no polarizations in the general congregations, in which the religious discuss the future of the Catholic Church, although there is “tension”.

From the beginning of the general congregations, in which the cardinals discuss candidates and themes focused on the vision of the future of the Church and the world, such as the need for evangelization, the responsibility of the institution for peace, relativism, loneliness and economic and financial situation of the Vatican, among others.

“There is no polarization in the general congregations, but there is tension,” said Cardinal Enrique JimĂ©nez Carvajal, a Colombian archbishop who is over 80 years old and, therefore, is not a voter, leaving the pre-contest meeting on Friday (2).

For the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, the Italian Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the mood among the cardinals during the meetings “is always good”.

According to Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez, 82 years old, who is not even an elector, the religious will enter the Sistine Chapel, where the vote occurs, with “clear ideas”. “In these days you have to listen to God,” he adds.

Speaking of the ongoing debate among the cardinals, the Italian cardinal Fernando Filoni states that “many aspects” have emerged and makes itself felt “a common responsibility”.

When asked if it would be possible to reach an agreement on a name in principle before the start of the conclave, the cardinal replied: “We will do as we have always done”.

Finally, Filoni stressed that the new “Pope must guarantee the unity of the whole Church”.

The congregations of the cardinals resumed this Friday (2), after a day off on the holidays of “St. Joseph Worker”. Tomorrow (3) there will also be a meeting between the religious, followed by a new stop on Sunday (4).

The conclave that will elect the next leader of the Catholic Church will begin on May 7 in the Sistine Chapel, where 133 cardinals will deposit his vote. A strong safety scheme is expected to be adopted in the surroundings, similar to that of Jorge Bergoglio’s funeral. .
