The history of cinema is full of these fantasy film projects, but never seen the light of day. There are those who have managed to make a feature film that they have dreamed of all their lives, and those who have never had the opportunity. But among all these projects, no one has Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon’s aura.
A orientation book that you know everything about Kubrick’s Napoleon
The director of the Shining and Orange Mechanic dreamed of bringing the life of the French emperor to the screen. According to his obsessed personality, Stanley Kubrick himself names the slightest aspect of Bonaparte’s life, browsing all the biographies dedicated to him, but also visiting the places that created his legend.
Nevertheless, this project condemned that he never saw the light of the day. It was very expensive, the film failed to combine the funds needed for the shot. Stanley Kubrick’s perfectionism would never allow him to make a movie about his ambitions, the one who had no longer been able to find an actor to transfer his qualities to Napoleon.
Although never shot, the film still came to life as a Taschen book that received many documents from Stanley Kubrick’s archive. The work assigned also offers a copy of the script written by the latter, so we offer a very accurate review of this Napoleon. Out of his nickname “The bigger movie never shot”.
The great film director tried to adapt the project in the series
At the beginning of 2023, Steven Spielberg announced the work of adapting the mini -series of this scenario, in partnership with the HBO channel. It has to be said that the American director is really the most indicated to move this project;
These two people were also very close, and therefore the greatest respect for his colleague was that Steven Spielberg decided to bring it to Napoleon’s screen. Unfortunately, the project has not received any news after this statement. So everything suggests that Kubrick Napoleon will never see the light of day.
A few years later, another American biopic was dedicated to Bonaparte’s life. But Ridley Scott Napoleon was a commercial and critical failure, especially with his historical inaccuracies. Or the opposite of Kubrick’s film who wanted to be as close as possible to the truth. So this is an additional reason to regret that this feature movie has never seen a daylight …
