Flash: Bad news for fans of the series

Bad news for Flash fans! After renewing the DC superhero series for a ninth season last April, The CW recently announced that it will be its last. The finale will consist of only 13 episodes instead of the usual twenty episodes and will air in 2023. Deadline.

With this finale, many of the main cast members of the series will certainly be there to bring closure to their character’s story. Along with Grant Gustin (Flash), viewers will find Candice Patton (Iris) and Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin). As for Jesse L. Martin (Joe), who will return for at least five episodes, the actor is currently on another project.

Fans of the Flash character will be treated to 2023, as 13 episodes of the series will air a few weeks before The Flash movie with Ezra Miller hits theaters on June 23, 2023, probably in the spring. However, Flash should only finish his own script and not set up the movie in any way, he said Deadline.

For his part, Eric Wallace, executive producer and showrunner of The Flash, wanted to thank those who contributed to the success of the series: “Nine seasons! Saving Central City for nine years while taking audiences on an emotional journey to its final release“, he said. “So many amazing people give their talent, time and love to bring this wonderful show to life every week.”

“As we prepare to celebrate the series’ incredible legacy with our thrilling final chapter, I want to thank our phenomenal cast, writers, producers and crew over the years who have helped make The Flash an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”

With The Flash out, the Arrowverse loses one of its last founding pillars. It has to be said that after the recent cancellation of DC: Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, or even Naomi, there isn’t much left of the superhero universe created by the CW.

Fortunately, some series on the American channel will keep the spirit of the heroes alive for a while, thanks to the renewal of Superman & Loïs (currently airing on TF1) for a third season and the release of Gotham Knights in 2023, which will follow the adventures of children Batman and the Joker. Despite the end of the series that established the reputation of the Arrowverse and superhero series on television, the next generation already promises to be just as interesting.
