Conclave to elect Francis’s successor will begin on 7
The eleventh and penultimate general Cardinal Congregation was held on Monday afternoon (5), in the Vatican, and addressed various topics, including the migratory crisis, wars and support for the successor of Pope Francis.
The information was confirmed in a press conference by the press office of Santa Sé, Matteo Bruni, who confirmed the presence of 170 cardinals, including 132 voters and about 20 speeches.
According to him, the cardinals discussed “ethnicity in the Church and in society”, the migratory crisis “, migrants as a gift, but also the request for support for their faith during their migrations”.
They spoke of “conflicts, the problem of wars on some continents, also based on the origin of some cardinals who have manifested themselves”.
Bruni also revealed that the religious have once again approached the “Synod and ecclesiology of communion, on the commitment and responsibility of all the cardinals to support the new Pope”. “We talked about a pope shepherd, with a perspective that goes beyond the Catholic Church, especially in a world where everyone is closer, so focused on dialogue and on the construction of relationships with different cultural and religious universes. And then we talked about the challenge of seven in some regions of the world”, he added.
The twelfth session of the cardinals will be held on Tuesday (6) in the morning, at 9:00 (local time). Subsequently, “at the moment there is no other congregation,” concluded the Vatican spokesman.
The conclave to elect the next leader of the Roman Catholic Church will begin on May 7 at the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. .
