May your first three films be a public and critical success It is something within the reach of very few. And less with a pandemic in between, being an African-American director committed to the racial cause and framing your projects in the horror movie genre. jordan peele he seemed to have everything against him, but every time he presents a new job he succeeds.
‘nope!’ is the confirmation of Peele as a consecrated director, harvesting comparisons in the first reactions to ‘Nope!’ with greats of the genre like John Carpenter (a compliment that did not please Peeleas can be seen in the following tweet) and with some of the films of a Steven Spielberg that cemented his career paying homage to the science fiction of the 50sjust as Peele does with this new foray into the fantastic.

‘nope!’ reunites Peele with the protagonist of ‘Let me out’, Daniel Kaluyaas one of the brothers (Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) that they discover an alien spaceship flying over the family horse ranch. The duo sets out to capture the spaceship with their camera, but the mission doesn’t quite go as planned.
“We tried to make a big summer blockbuster that you can enjoy whatever you want,” Peele said. “If you want to come in and smoke a good joint and talk to a friend about social problems, you can. If you want to come and just relax and get away from it all and seeing Keke Palmer in the middle of a UFO, too you have come to the right place”.
Kaluuya is in charge of opening the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip that heads this text, in which it states that “Jordan Peele has matured as a filmmaker. Everything is bigger. His style in this film is totally different.”
The rest of the cast and the filmmaker’s collaborators stand out his respect and love for his workand how it spreads to the entire team when shooting.
Special mention deserves the appearance of Hoyte van Hoytema, Christopher Nolan’s regular cinematographer first collaborating with Jordan Peele in a shoot that has been made entirely with IMAX cameras. “From ‘Us’ to this movie is a big jump, and Jordan feels perfectly suited for it. And when you add someone like Hoyte to the equation… You haven’t seen anything like it“.
The clip culminates with a motivational speech from Peele to his crew: “Every day of filming we are doing something new and special, something that is also a testimony that explains my love for cinema. I will always remember the days when we shot this movie.”
Universal will premiere ‘Nope!’ in cinemas throughout Spain next August 18th.
