Understand the sagas and stages of the Marvel Universe movies and series

Marvel Studios divide its Cinematic Universe into sagas and phases, made up of the films and series of the great Marvel heroes.

There are now two great sagas released by Marvel. The first of these is Infinity Saga, which is made up of the first three stages of the MCU, ranging from “Iron Man”, the first shared universe movie released in 2008, to “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, which has closed the saga with the events immediately after “Avengers: Endgame”.

Now, during San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has unveiled the Multiverse Saga, which has been underway since the release of “WandaVision”, opening Phase 4 of the MCU in early 2021 and going up to at the end of Phase 6, the films of which have begun to be announced.

We have separated the Marvel Universe movies and series into their phases to make it easier to understand the divisions made by Marvel Studios.

The first phase of the MCU introduced the main heroes of Marvel, resulting in “The Avengers,” the first great reunion of heroes. Tony Stark started things off by creating the costume of him, Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, is introduced in the sequel to “Iron Man”. But first, a Bruce Banner still played by Edward Norton ends up becoming the Hulk.

In the first phase, Thor and his brother Loki are also introduced, as well as Captain America, which takes us to World War II when he became the first Avenger. Finally, “The Avengers” brings together the heroes presented for the episode known as “The Battle of New York”.

After introducing its main characters, MCU Phase 2 expanded things by introducing more heroes. More Avengers stories have been told in solo films and new heroes have been introduced, not just in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ant-Man”, but along the way in the Phase 2 films.

Among them are Falcon, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch 3 or Vision, not to mention Ant-Man himself and the Guardians of the Galaxy – formed by Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. It was also in Phase 2 that we began to discover what the Infinity Stones would be, important pieces of Phase 3.

stages of wonder

The most hectic phase of the MCU has spanned over 10 films and includes some of the most epic battles in the Marvel Universe to date. Phase 3 begins with a disagreement between the heroes, which results in a true civil war starring Captain America and Iron Man, which divides the Avengers.

But the differences between the heroes end up being sidelined with the rise of Thanos, which threatens half of life in the universe. In addition to expanding the existing heroes with some solo movie sequels and two major Avengers movies, Phase 3 introduces Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Mantis, Spider-Man, Valkyrie and Captain Marvel, among others.

As of this writing, Marvel is in its Phase 4, opening the Multiverse Saga and starting a new Era of the MCU. And this Era begins with something new at Marvel Studios: series produced exclusively for Disney + that are completely intertwined with the Cinematic Universe, starting with “WandaVision”.

As the events of the end of Phase 3 caused the end, or a new beginning, for many of the major heroes we know in the Infinity Saga, here we have a reconstruction of the MCU, with several hero introductions and even character transformations.

As this is a reconstruction, several characters have been introduced or have gained more space and have become more prominent figures here. Some of the characters featured in Phase 4 are the Eternals, Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, and Ms. Wonder.

Marvel is moving towards the end of its Phase 4 and in 2023 we will have the arrival of Phase 5. It is still too early to define what Phase 5 will provide, but we already know that the “Secret Invasion” series should be a major one. cross event. . As in Phase 4, some characters will be introduced and / or will gain more space.

“Echo” will expand on the character featured in “Hawkeye” and “WandaVision” will also have a spin-off starring Agatha Harkness. Additionally, Blade will be introduced to the MCU, as will Ironheart, Tony Stark’s successor. “The Marvels” also promises a reunion of heroes and “Thunderbolts”, a group of Marvel villains who come together to do good.

As with Phase 5, not much is known about Phase 6. For now, only three films have been confirmed, which include two Avengers reunions, with the as-yet-unknown new line-up reuniting for the first time since the end of Phase 3. .
