Netflix canceled “First Kill,” a lesbian vampire series whose only season was released last June.
After just three weeks in the platform’s Top 10, the attraction reached a total of 100 million viewing hours, a number that can now serve as a standard for assessing which series are at risk to stream.
Based on a short story by writer Victoria “VE” Schwab, the plot revolved around Juliette, a vampire teenager who needs to make her first kill. She targets a new girl in town named Calliope, unaware that her target is descended from a family of vampire hunters.
Due to their goals, the two end up reconnecting, even a little too much to the chagrin of their families, who declare war when they become engaged. The result suggests a version of “Romeo and Juliet” with two Juliets (the name Juliette shouldn’t be accidental) and, of course, vampires.
The attraction was produced by actress Emma Roberts (“American Horror Story”) and written by the author of the original short story. The cast included Sarah Catherine Hook (“The Conjuring 3: The Devil’s Order”) and Imani Lewis (“Hightown”) as protagonists, as well as Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost”, “The Expanse”), Jason R. Moore (“The Expanse Punisher “), Aubin Wise (” Atlanta “), Will Swenson (” Chilling Adventures of Sabrina “), Gracie Dzienny (” Zoo “) and Phillip Mullings Jr. (” American Soul “).
