Actress Ellen Pompeo will step away from “Grey’s Anatomy” to star in a miniseries.
Taking advantage of the hook at the end of the 18th season of the medical series, in which Meredith (the character of Pompeo) takes on the role of interim chief surgeon at Gray Sloan Memorial, she will be “busy” and will appear in fewer episodes. Overall, Pompeo will star in just eight chapters of the nineteenth season, which is starting production. But she will continue to narrate and serve as an executive producer for the entire season.
Downsizing comes for her to play her first different role in nearly two decades. Pompeo will star in the Hulu miniseries “Orphan”, based on the true story that would inspire the horror film “The Orphan” (2009).
Created by Katie Robbins (writer of “The Affair”), the series will tell what led Kristine Barnett (the role of Pompeo) and her husband Michael to abandon their adopted daughter, Natalia, in 2013, when the girl was only 9 years old. . .
Young Natalia was originally from Ukraine and suffered from dwarfism. The case caused a stir when it was discovered that her adoptive parents had placed the girl in an apartment and moved to Canada. However, in a twist that seems straight out of the movie “The Orphan” (2009), Kristine and Michael claimed that the girl was, in fact, an adult woman suffering from psychological problems and posing as a child.
The adoptive parents also claimed that Natalia has begun to threaten their lives and that of their biological children.
After an investigation, the neglect charges against Kristine Barnett and Michael Barnett were dropped. But Natalia denied the allegations of cheating on her parents.
The project for this series has been in development for some time. At one point, comedian Mike Epps (“The Upshaws”) was even involved in the production.
In addition to acting, Pompeo will also executive produce “Orphan”.
