The Brazilian Aluminium Company (CBA) announced Friday that it has signed agreements for the purchase of post office in the Winds House and Auren Energia wind self -production activities, for a total amount of R $ 158 million.
Transactions aim to support the company’s growth plan, which consumes large quantities of electricity in its production process and also to replace an energy contract that will end in 2028, explained the manager of the CBA, Luciano Alves.
Signed agreements, which still need approvals such as the antitrust agency fall, provide for the entire supply of 115 medium megawatts (MWM) to an aluminum plant from CBA to San Paolo. The offer will come from two wind farms to Rio Grande Do Norte, the Serra Do Tigre complex, the 60 MWM house and the Auren Lll of Auren with 55 MWM.
The CBA, the aluminum company of the Otorantim group, which is also an Auren controller, has an energy consumption of 700 to 750 MWM, mainly provided by a generator park composed of hydroelectric plants under full control of the group or consortia in which it participates.
In addition, the CBA has about 160 MWM in energy contracts in the wallet, in a strategy that serves for example to compensate for the seasonality of the production of its hydroelectric dams, explained Alves.
“We have an energy contract of about 100 MWM which wins in 2028. Therefore, part of this assumption also has to do with it.”
The CBA will arrive as a partner in the assets, adapting as well as a car -energy proper. In this agreement, which has become the main engine of the growth of the Brazilian generator Park in recent years, the energy consumer acquires participation and invests in a system together with the electricity company. With this, it guarantees incentives that reduce the input costs, such as the exemption from paying the expenses.
“We entered as a partner, obviously participated in investments and, of course, to guarantee the return of this project, we have a long -term energy contract … it is an equation that is interesting for both sides,” said the president of the CBA.
A provisional measure published this week in the energy sector has changed the rules for the car -production, with the aim of curbing the practices that the government considers “opportunistic” in this market. The text imposed, for example, that the consumer must have a minimum aggregate demand of 30 MW to be able to classify himself as a car -productor, which should limit the use of this mode by smaller companies.
For the CBA, the new energy self -production agreements will help to face the expected growth of its production, with the provision of reign a forest room.
“Our expectation is that we would be able to have a volume (production) over 600 thousand tons/year in the future during the end of the decade … with this growth of 50 thousand tons from liquid aluminum, in addition to the rest of further waste or recycling in our wallet.”
For the Dos Venos house, the partnership with CBA is relevant for the feasibility of the Serra Do Tigre complex, with 756 MW of installed capacity, said the executive director of the Lucas Araipe renewable generator.
“The agreement demonstrates the competitiveness of our solutions, while contributing to the reduction of emissions by one of the major energy consumers in Brazil,” said the executive.
