Many fans have wondered what became of the cast of “Malcolm in the middle,” but they continued to enjoy the adventures of this unconventional family.
Each of their characters is iconic and Hal and Lois are for many a role model as a couple. But have you noticed that Hal is a bad husband? We explain the reasons.
He lied to Lois: he didn’t have a vasectomy
When Lois was about to give birth to her fifth child, Jamie, she learned that Hal had never had a vasectomy, even though they had both agreed to do so. He did this despite knowing that Lois no longer wanted any more children or pregnancies.
His explanation for not doing it and hiding it from him was that “his little friends were too precious to him.” This is a terrible action in hindsight, as it exposed his wife’s sexual health. She should have told him her fears in order to resort to another method of contraception.
He fattened her up to satisfy his pleasure
When Lois was pregnant with Jamie, Hal started making her fat on purpose without her realizing it, even though he was uncomfortable with her weight.
He even began to exercise desperately. However, Hal insisted on changing the food labels and fed her high fat food without realizing it.
He only did it to satisfy his sexual desires, because seeing her more “round” gave him pleasure. In short, affecting your partner’s self-esteem and physical well-being just for your own satisfaction is not something a good husband would do.
I didn’t go to work on Fridays
In the episode ‘Reese Enlists in the Army Part 2’ Hal is accused of financial fraud and his trial is held.
That’s when Malcolm finds a way to save him, as his father confesses that he hasn’t gone to work every Friday for 15 years.
Lois blames him, because it is an extremely selfish action. While Hal did recreational activities on Fridays, Lois pulled double shifts at work, taking care of her children and household chores.
He indirectly cheated on her
In the episode “Mononucleosis” of the seventh season of “Malcolm in the middle”, Lois and Malcolm suffer from this disease, so they have to stay locked up for 15 days.
During this time Hal begins attending all the neighborhood meetings. Although he may not know it, he begins to have an affair with one of his neighbors.
He gives her flowers, stops by, is her companion at all events and gives her various compliments. Although perhaps not on purpose, he was unfaithful to Lois with his actions.
“Malcolm in the Middle”: Hal was jealous and possessive
In “Malcolm in the middle” it was possible to appreciate how possessive Hal was with Lois. He even ran a postman out of his house because he thought he was a “pervert” for wearing shorts. In one episode, Hal even appeared to be jealous of his own children, as he did not like Lois breastfeeding them.
