Vanessa Bryant is still in the midst of a sudden legal battle death of her husband, Kobe Bryant , and their daughter, Gianna. Vanessa is suing Los Angeles County for the photos allegedly taken and allegedly distributed by first responders at the scene of the helicopter crash. The case has taken some interesting turns so far, and Bryant has had some setbacks. Now he has taken another step, probably in an attempt to improve his chances on the pitch. According to a new report, Bryant has hired an expert for the libel trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
Richard John Shaw, the forensic psychiatrist and Stanford University professor who testified in the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp case, was recruited by Vanessa Bryant’s attorneys. For Law and crime , Bryant’s team filed a notice earlier this week and the hiring comes just before jury selection for the trial, which will begin on August 10. Shaw is reportedly expected to testify as a rebuttal witness in this latest court case.
This latest development comes as ‘Emotional distress’ and Instagram come into play . Lately, Los Angeles County demanded that Kobe Bryant’s widow’s social media posts be included in the lawsuit. The county legal team says the photos Vanessa shared indicate that she is not experiencing the “emotional stress” she claims. According to Law & Crime, Bryant’s attorneys recently tried to rule out the testimony of psychiatrist and professor Mark A. Cohen. In her report, Cohen said he found no evidence that Bryant “suffered mental or emotional damage from the accident scene photographs of her late husband and daughter that were shared.”
During the high-profile case of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, Richard John Shaw served as a rebuttal expert for the former. Definitely, the verdict fell in Depp’s favor , as the plaintiff was awarded $ 8.3 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Shaw previously disputed Mark A. Cohen’s findings, stating in a 21-page report that “a person can suffer from significant distress and anxiety, potentially for the rest of their life, after learning that the mutilated remains of a loved one were photographed by several rescuers for personal use … “
Social media exposure is just one of the setbacks Vanessa Bryant faced in this lawsuit. Earlier this month, the judge scolded Bryant’s legal team for presenting too much evidence at a preliminary hearing. Judge John Walter also criticized Los Angeles County for doing the same thing, telling the two groups that they needed to “get together and start bringing that evidence to trial in a semblance of order.”
In the case of Kobe Bryant’s widow, a few other lawsuits have also been filed. One is of Christopher Chester, who lost his wife and daughter in the helicopter crash and is also chasing the photos. Since then, Los Angeles County has argued that with the similarity of their cases, Chester can’t climb [Vanessa] Bryant’s tailcoats. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was also involved in a Case related to Bryant, although it has already been solved .
Vanessa Bryant’s trial will begin in August. We’ll see if Richard Jon Shaw’s signing works in Bryant’s favor.
