Leo XIV has condemned the use of force against international law
Pope Leo XIV declared Thursday (26) that the “Christian est” is the target of “diabolical violence never seen before” and called “unworthy” the use of force to prevail over international law.
The declarations were made in a speech at the plenary assembly of the meeting of the works of help to the Oriental Churches (Roaco, in the acronym in Italian), in the Vatican, in the wake of the attack that killed at least 30 people in a Greco-Orthodox church in Damascus, Syria and conflicts in the Middle East.
“The history of the Eastern Catholic churches is often marked by the violence suffered, but today war violence seems to be shot down in the territories of Eastern Christian with a diabolical vehemence never seen before,” said Leo XIV in his declaration.
“It is really sad to look today, in so many contexts, to the imposition of the law of the strongest. It is bleak to see that the strength of international law and humanitarian law no longer seems to be obliged, replaced by the alleged right to oblige others with force. This is unworthy of being human and is shameful and is shameful for humanity and for those responsible for the nations”, he added.
According to American Ponteff, the “false advertising of the rearmament” are a “betrayal of the desires of peace of peoples” in the “vain illusion that supremacy solves problems”. “People are no longer aware of the quantity of money that goes to the death of death merchants and with which hospitals and schools could be built. Instead, those already built are destroyed,” he said.
Citing the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, the Pope said that humanity is called to seek the “real causes” of these conflicts and to unmask “emotional and rhetorical simulations”. “People can’t die because of false news,” he warned.
