The investigation shows that applications transport services will allow a greater female workforce by 2029
Summary
The transport apps can include up to 390,000 women in the labor market by 2029, according to an Oxford economy study in collaboration with Uber. Security is a key factor.
A recent study by Oxford Economics reveals the significant impact of growth and access to transport applications for women in Brazil.
The survey, made in collaboration with Uber, covered the cities of Belo Horizonte (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and San Paolo (SP) and indicates potential economic benefits by 2029.
The research shows that the improvement of transport options – with emphasis on safety and reliability that the transport apps offer to women – together with policies that face economic inequality, can help reduce specific gender barriers.
The analysis of the data shows that women consider security (73%) as the main factor of choice for transport. In addition, women have less flexibility in travel to work.
According to the survey, women in Brazil are less prone than men to say that they would find other ways to work if the app transport service was not available (49% of men against 32% of women).
Main conclusions:
- The study indicates the inclusion potential of 280 thousand to 390 thousand women in the workforce by 2029 in the three Brazilian cities included in the study. This represents an increase of 3.5% to 4.9% in the number of women in the workforce.
- An impulse from 1.5% to 2.1% in cities economies, made possible by the inclusion of several women in the workforce.
- Most (73%) of women who often use transport services give priority to resources and safety standards by deciding to use these services.
- Women in Brazil emphasize security resources more (73% of women against 63% of men).
- The transport services of the apps have become an essential option, with 65% of all Brazilian women interviewed underlining the efficiency.
A significant part of the women who work and use the transport service of the apps often face long travel times, with almost nine (89%) that require more than 30 minutes to reach the work. Among these, the travel time of over a third (37%) exceeds an hour.
The applications transport service has become an essential option due to the shorter movement time and waiting, being important factors in the decision on the use of this mode.
Safety as a decisive factor
Men and women have different preferences when choosing an application transport service instead of other ways. The women interviewed in Brazil emphasize security resources (73% of women against 63% of men) and customer service (72% of women against 63% of men). This service – as 24 hours a day of assistance, 7 days a week – is also highly appreciated.
“We commit ourselves to trying to be an increasingly secure platform for women and therefore Investimo in initiatives of excellence. The study demonstrates the importance of these investments and how our efforts strengthen communities and increase economic growth. We will continue to collaborate with experts,” says Liz Dark, Global Head Security for Uber women.
