A strange place… for a reunion! Contrary to what one might think, Bullet Train is not the first feature film in which David Leitch has directed Brad Pitt. Because the actor has already appeared, much more briefly, in one of the director’s previous films in 2018 and Marvel.
Brad Pitt had a really fun cameo in Deadpool 2, which was directed by David Leitch and replaced behind the camera by Tim Miller. In the feature film, a talking mercenary played by Ryan Reynolds has formed his own super team: X-Force. But their first mission turned into a bloodbath, a free fall, after which almost all members died in terrible pain.
Among them: Shatterstar (Louis Tan) and Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård) with the blades of a helicopter and a vegetable shredder respectively. Bedlam (Terry Crews), dead in the bus windshield. and a ghost that can prevent his body from materializing. Except when he falls on power lines and dies revealing that his interpreter was none other than…Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt in the movie “Deadpool 2”
A hilarious cameo, arguably one of the best in all of Marvel’s movies combined, so surprising that many viewers found it hard to believe. “I can confirm this is Brad Pitt”– told Ryan Reynolds Collider Shortly after release. “I still don’t know how we got him in the movie. I just wrote him a letter saying what we wanted to do.”
“Because the main idea was to find the best way to spoil the biggest star in the world: almost always invisible in character and without interest on the scale of the film. And someone who comes to shoot eight pictures. I think. Brad thought the idea was ridiculous, as we all did. So he agreed and shot seven It came within minutes. It took longer to drink the coffee he demanded as payment.”
Ryan Reynolds doesn’t say, and what he undoubtedly played a lot of, is that David Leitch was Brad Pitt’s understudy in several movies. including Fight Club, Ocean’s Eleven, Troy or even Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Behind-the-camera knowledge may factor into an actor’s decision.
Brad Pitt wasn’t the only cameo, as we met an unrecognizable Matt Damon under his makeup, in the skin of one of the redheads who greets Cable (Josh Brolin). And David Leitch appeared as a caged mutant.

The director and stuntman then returned to Hobbs & Shaw as a helicopter pilot. Then, today, in Bullet Train: He’s a collateral victim of a bloodbath by Citron (Brian Tyree Henry) and Mandarin (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) during a mission in Bolivia when he explodes next to a car.
For the occasion, the Deadpool 2 trio has reformed, with David Leitch back in front of and behind the camera, Brad Pitt playing the title role, and … Ryan Reynolds donning himself. Very briefly, when the identity of the character is revealed, which the hero changes due to health reasons. And this is the third time that the Canadian actor has played under the direction of the director, as we saw him briefly in Hobbs & Shaw.
So we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for David Leitch’s next film, as the director could be lurking in there again, as could Brad Pitt and/or Ryan Reynolds.
“Bullet Train” will be released in cinemas from August 3:
