Director Fernando Meirelles (“Dois Papas”) will direct the “Esperanza” series, created by Estela Renner and Marcos Nisti, who developed Globoplay’s hit “Aruanas”.

Like “Aruanas”, the new series will also focus on environmental activists. The plot will revolve around the crew of a ship called Esperanza, which fights for environmental and social rights around the world.

The attraction was developed by the American production company Participant in collaboration with the Brazilian Maria Farinha Films.

“Maria Farinha Films is a natural partner for Participant, sharing our mission to drive change in the real world through high-quality content,” said Participant executive Miura Kite. “With our collective experience, I am confident that ‘Esperanza’ will captivate audiences as well as illuminate the struggles of activists and the timely importance of the issues they fight in a much deserved way.”

In addition to creating the series, Renner and Nisti will also act as showrunners and produce the attraction with Meirelles himself.

“Esperanza” doesn’t have a release date yet.

Fernando Meirelles is also currently involved in the HBO series “Pico da Neblina” and is developing “Sugar”, a project that is still in its early stages.
